Polyurethane elastomer is not perfect, and it also has shortcomings: 1. Large internal heat generation and general high temperature resistance. The normal use temperature range of polyurethane elastomer is -30℃ to 80℃, and it is not suitable for long-term use above 120℃. 2. Not resistant to strong polar solvents and strong acid and alkali media. At a certain temperature, alcohol, acid, and ketone will swell and degrade polyurethane elastomer. Solvents such as dichloromethane, dimethylformamide, and trichloroethylene will swell the polyurethane elastomer at room temperature.

The domestic market’s demand for polyurethane is increasing year by year, but some key raw materials are still mainly imported, which restricts the development of the polyurethane industry. We should accelerate the localization of the production of key raw materials and produce raw materials with high performance and low prices.

The alloying research of polyurethane elastomer materials has also become a hot topic in the research of polymer materials in recent years. Polyurethane elastomer can be compounded with PVC, PE, ABS and other synthetic resins to reduce costs and improve performance. Polyurethane elastomers can also be modified by adding some organic fillers to highlight or strengthen certain aspects of performance, or to improve some of the shortcomings of polyurethane elastomers to meet special needs.

With the increasing requirements for polyurethane elastomer products and the strengthening of people’s awareness of environmental protection, the development of new aliphatic polyisocyanates has become an urgent research topic.

A few days ago, the "2013 Polyurethane Elastomer Annual Conference" of the Elastomer Professional Committee of China Polyurethane Industry Association was held in Xining Hotel, Xining City, Qinghai Province.
